Nyåkers

Founded by the brothers Bengt and John Åström, Nyåkers is well known in Sweden and is one of the country’s oldest producers of gingerbread cookies (pepparkakor in Swedish!). Growing up in a hard-working family with 10 children the two brothers were only 15 years old, when their parents sent them to southern Sweden to work as baker apprentices, hoping this eventually would provide an extra income to the family. It sure did! In 1952 the two brothers returned to Nyåkers and started baking pepparkakor. Initially in a makeshift facility but the production took off quickly and grew into a company, that now exports a great deal of their cookies, which now also include many other varieties. The homemade quality is still one of the core values/characteristics for Nyåkers and the company has won several prices and awards as test winner in various taste competitions.
